It has been a long time since I was here last. WAY too much has happened, to tell you all everything. Winters have come and gone, good and bad things have happened.
My beloved Ludvig went to the Bridge this spring, at 9 and a half years old.
But all the others are going strong :)

A dear friend of mine,has lost her Sweet Amos.

He wasn`t ill, wasn`t in pain, he behaved just like it was a normal day.

He played with his sister, chased the cats away from his spot. Then, he laid down next to his momma, head on one paw and fell asleep..........and never woke up again.

Amos wasn`t eaven 5 years old..........

In Norway, it is WAAAYYYYY to early to decorate for Christmas. The only thing we do, is place a star in our window for the first Sunday in Advent....

But I have many good friends in the US, and there, decorating starts imideatly after Thanksgiving.

This year, I feel inspired to go International. So I have started my Christmas decorating early. I will NOT put the tree up yet. I always have a natural tree and it would probaby loose all the green needles before Cristmas then. It wouldn not be a pretty sight come x-mas eve.

My youngest Basset, Todd was wondering about what on earth the new stuff in the window was... Luckily , he didn`t singe his nose. All the ornaments in the window, are for burning t-candles inside.......

We woke up to a Winter Wonderland this morning. An inch and a half of new snow, and as there isn`t a breath of wind, everything is "painted" in snow.

An English artist named William ( Billy) Jamison has made the most wonderful watercolour of my Todd.

Jamison lives in England and does gorgeous work. He also loves dogs and does watercolours and pil paintings of all kinds of breeds. His love for dogs really show in his work!

He also does work on comission, for very reasonable prices.

Today, we got our first snow. 4 inches of it. But as it started to rain, it shrunk to and inch and a half.The Gang loves the snow, and can`t wait for more.

Fall has come

It is getting colder. The trees are changing their colours and there is new snow on the mountaintops. I do NOT like the fact that our looooong, dark winter is approaching. But the fall colours make my view eaven more spectacular, I think! I took the first 2 pics yesterday morning

My gorgeous Ben was 10 years old yesterday, on September 11th.

he has given me so mych joy over the years! He is a loverboy, kisser, smootch. Also a Master thief, rascal and charmer. He is still very young at heart, despite his age and health problems.

It was also a sad day, as his brother Billy would have been 10 too, had he lived.Billy was a lover of all living beings. He "adopted" all creatures great and Small, as he was taught by my lovely Tasha(ATB).

Dental Day

Today Ludvig and Ben went in to have their dentals.
Poor Ludvig, he is not brave and does NOT like vets. At least not when in the Vets office.
But it went fairly well, had to pull 2 teeth, but we expected that. Right now, Ludvig is sulking, not wanting to look in my direction.

Ben on the other hand, LOVES vets, also in the clinic!Amazing really, after had "umpteen" surgeries to remove his pilomatricoma lumps, and other examinations, tests taken, diabetes testings etc. over the years. Ben doesn`t mind at all. he is totally happy and calm, whatever they do to him.
His teeth are really good, and pearly white again. But we had to pull a little, front tooth that he broke ages ago. it was now ready to go.

And so was my pay check.....ready to go.......
And I have to take Mr A and Funky in next week.......

I guess my Basset Gang will pay for my vet`s next holliday, eh?

Let me apologize for the poor quality in this video called Dinnertime. I found that feeding the crew and filming was quite a challenge.And it is also quite dark, in places. But I think you can get a feeling on what it is like to feed 8 Hounds( counting Laban, the CattetHound) at the same time .

"Poor" Ben has finally discovered a downside of being blind. He can run around in the yard, go trecking in the forrest, no problems. But this got the better of him.

He had just eate, but seemed to not be satisfied. He kept on searching for more. As he was becoming more and more frustrated, I was beginning to worry. Then I saw it.....

A kibble had "glued" itself to his nose.

Talk about the ultimate frustration for a Basset hound, smelling food somewhere but not seeing it.

House of Puddles

I want to tell you all about a wonderful place , House of Puddles,and the wonderful woman who runs it, Marilyn!

There are currently 16 seniors in HOP + her own 2 hounds, enjoying their life in retirement, full of love and care. The seniors average 12 in years!!!

A lot has happened in my pack since January. On the 15th, the sweet, shy Agathon ( Mr A) came home. He was about as a-typical a Basset I have ever met. And he was totally petrified of cats. My poor cattetHound, Laban, couldn`t understand it. He wanted to be friends, Mr A cried and hid from him. But ever so slowly, Agathon has come around. He now likes his cat-looking friends and he is very slowly becoming a true Basset hound in spirit.

Then on the 25th of February, Funky arrived. She was supposed to be rehomed here last summer, but the then owners changed their mind.

I had heard nothing untill the 25th of January, and then it was really urgent. So I drove 6 hours in a blizzard, picked her up, drove 6 hours back.

Funky was emaciated when she arrived. But after 5 weeks of TLC and groceries, you won`t belive the difference. See for your selves:

As you all can see, I have seriously neglected my blog for a while. But no more! A lot of things have happened the last few months. But for now, I`ll concentrate on now.

For the time being, there are 7 Bassets here now. Emma and Doris came to Camp Tina`s for a few weeks. It was VERY warm for this part of the world, 31-33 Centigrade ( 86-92 Farenheit) so the Extended Gang only "awoke" for playtime as the sun set, late in the evening.

I tell you all, to walk all 7 in the forrest is a challenge. But I think we made it look good after a little while

The "new" boy`s room

I finally decided to redo the boy`s room. It was initially done by friends who said they knew what they were doing.....NOT!!!

We tore out all the old lino on the floor, all the peices of lino they glued/nailed to the wall. Removed the freezer to make more space for beds.

I laid the new lino last night and today we did the walls . The boys have made their first inspection.

X-mas is coming

My tree is up, all my christmas cards so far, are on the walls. The house smells of blooming Hyacints and incense and all my candle holders for x-mas are burning cosily.

The Boys and I are ready for Christmas. But with a sad twist as Clara and Billy are not with us this year. Then again, my little Devil Todd celebrates his first x.mas with us and he is still eyeing the ornaments with drool in his mouth LOL. The tree has survived so far, touch wood.

I feel blessed!

Great News!

We got some great news today!!
Billy had been diagnosed withPyleonephritis a few weeks ago. After 5 weeks on antibiotics , he was doing a lot better. But then he showed blood in his urine again. So we took new bloodtests. The worry was that his kidneys were failing.

To make a longer story short, his tests show an improvement! he is on new meds for some weeks, and the kidney values were now getting better!!

We got our first snow yesterday. Not much, but the boys loved it all the same.Sadly it all melted by this morning.All I have in my yard now, is MUD :(

Todya I have been stacking bales of hay. 3 and a half ton of it.

It feels good to have all the hay for the horses home for the winter!

I just wish they could stack themselves. The last time I got some of my hay, I had good help from visiting Spike.

I think it is importaint to know CPR. You just never know when an emergency occurs, and you need it. So My boys have put together a quick course for all of us.

First, check the pulse:

Is the victim breathing?If not, use the Kiss of Life

Make the victim comortable
Keep the patient warm
Use what ever you can find as a bandage/tournice

If all else fails, RUN AND GET HELP!!

I have sooo neglected my blog!! There has been a lot going on and I have just not "been here".

But I`m back, and still going strong!

Ben is now well again, gets his insuline twice a day and is fit as a fiddle.

And we have a new member of our family too ! A now 1 year old Basset Boy called Todd. He REALLY livens up the place, LOLOL

He is cute, and knows it! Him coming home, has made the older boys "young" again with playing, and me "nuts". I had forgotten how it is to live with a puppy in the house again. But I love every minute of it!

On wednesday, the 2 Basset Hound girls Emma and Doris arrived for their Western Norway holliday. They`ll be staying to 2 and a half weeks.

My boys have been having a power struggle going after we lost Clara. But as soon as the Girls arrived, it stopped.

Just goes to show, Boys brawl, Girls RULE!

I nearly lost my Ben thursday night. He got acute Diabetes, but we can`t figure out why.His blood tests were weird, not fitting anything my vets could think of. But he gets insulin now, and it seems to help all weird blood levels. He is getting a little fed up with needles now, but he really is a trooper! More patient than I would be!

When I bought this place 2 years ago, it was a mess.To the right of the house, there was a 10 feet tal thorn bush, no garden, lots of garbage and a zillion rocks.

After 2 years of slow work, I have dug the whole place up. Painted and planted. My last project was a wire fence from the back of the house, along the right, ending in a picket fence. My yard and garden is now fenced in an Basset Hound Proofed! Just look at the huge difference 2 years can do!

Horrah! I am so happy!!! Bumblee, a Basset Hound I have been sponsering in Alabama got his Forever Home accepted today!! Way to go Bumblee! In a few weeks time, he`ll have his very own, new family of humans and dogs, to love him for the rest of his life!

I have almost finished the last part of my new fence. The fenced in yard will be twicew as large, and incorporates my garden too. I can close this part off for winter. I don`t want my boys getting a snowslide from the roof on their heads. This last peice of the fence is a picket fence, I`ll paint it white......DAWG, I am getting all romantic LOL

I picked my first strawberries from my own garden tonight. They were soooo sweet! YUMMMM. I shared them with The Boys. I don`t knoe who were drooling the most, me or the Hounds. And there are LOTS more green ones on the plants! I guess I`ll have to try out the 11 recepies of Cheesecake friends have given me. And top the cakes with Strawberries!
Ok , I admit it: I am a Cheesecake`o`holic.....

YUCK!! Cryton brought me a dead bird this morning...he probably think I need extra meat for lunch or something. FINE, I may need fattening up, but this is NOT my idea of a good meal.

Now, fried peices of chicken on a mixed,sallad bed....with hot peanut sauce, followed by Cheesecake......THAT is a meal! I can do without the feathers Cryton....
